1984  Board elections

June 20, 1984
A new volleyball board was elected at the Volleyball General Meeting: Pieter Joon, Gordon Neale, Gyula Radi and Dr. I. Plesa (HUN) were elected, the latter as head classifier for volleyball.
Sverre Bergenholdt (NOR) and Bill Teaque (USA) are chosen as representatives for Europe and the Americas.

1984 Many complaints from Countries and Press

The Volleyball Committee receives many complaints after a first round. The games are played in a dark hall with a dark green floor. The complaints from the English, German and Dutch (AVRO) TV teams in particular are about the dark floor with poorly lit hall. In addition, the designation of referees and line judges is chaotic. Especially the 2nd referees and line judges appear to be basketball referees and sometimes leave the game because their time is up. Pieter Joon demands a different venue and wants to appoint his own competition management. After some discussions he gets his way. The matches go to another (very bright) hall with more capacity for spectators. In addition, he appoints Albert Thiescheffer as general competition leader. The Countries and the Press are satisfied and the tournament is saved.

The Sitting Volleyball received a lot of attention from the TV team of the Dutch AVRO. A team led by Frits Suer was present for this. Suer wrote an extensive report of the tournament in the magazine of the Dutch Volleyball Federation.
