Because of the worldwide Covid virus the Paralympic Games were postponed for 1 year.
In total 8 men and 8 women teams were participating at the sitting volleyball tournament. RUS and ITA were making their debut in the women competition. RUS was not aloud to participate as a country, but the IPC was giving the Paralympic Committee of Russia permission to participate under special circumstances. Under RPC, (Russia Paralympic Committee) the men and women team were aloud taking part. The men team of RPC were reaching the final, so for the first time since 2000 there was no IRI-BIH match as a final. IRI was beating RPC and became for the seventh time Paralympic Champion sitting volleyball.
Again their were some live stream issues for the sitting volleyball matches from the start. The first 3 match days it was not possible to show the matches online, which caused annoying irritations and incorrect distractions for many players and staff.
For the fourth time the women sitting volleyball final was played between CHN and USA. The USA were winning their second gold medal.

Someity is the official mascot of the 2020 Summer Paralympics. Created by Japanese artist Ryo Taniguchi. Someity is named after someiyoshino, a type of cherry blossom, and it is also intended to refer to the English phrase “so mighty”. The character is described as “usually calm” but can become “very powerful when needed”. The character can fly using its checkered cape and send telepathic messages using its cherry blossom-shaped antennae. It can also “talk to stones and the wind” and move objects by looking at them.
