2004 – Athens

During these Paralympic Game there was the start of the women sitting volleyball with 6 teams. It was also the first time without Dutch men team. Debut for the host country GRE men team, but no GRE women team.  In the men tournament 8 teams were participating. Again was the final men BIH-IRI but this time BIH became the winner. CHN women team were winning all their matches in this tournament and became the first Women Paralympic sitting volleyball champion.

2004 Mascotte Proteas

The mascot at the 2004 Games in Athens was a seahorse called Proteas. Named after the mythologic sea-god or god of rivers and oceanic bodies of water, Proteus. Created to symbolize strength, pursuit, inspiration and celebration. Designer Spyros Gogos.
